The Program

CIEE's USA High School program is a ten-month academic year or a five-month academic semester program, including homestay, beginning either August or January. Students aged 15 to 18 spend a high school year living with a pre-arranged host family and attending a US high school. Participants must demonstrate the skills, motivation and maturity that are crucial to their success in the program. Students are placed with host families throughout the US - from a small town in Iowa to a suburb of Boston. They are expected to be active in all aspects of family and community life. Eligibility

Enrollment in a US High School. Total cultural immersion. Exposure to everyday life in the US. A friendly and supportive host family. High-quality homestay selection. Year-long supervision by a local co-ordinator.

What is included?

The DS-2019 certificate of eligibility necessary to apply for the J-1 visa for the US. Pre-departure orientation workbook. A three day orientation in the US, including all workshops, meals and sightseeing. Participant handbook. Comprehensive health and accident insurance. 24 hour supervision by a local co-ordinator. Availability of organized excursions to different parts of the US.
